JOB Overview:
The Legal Counsel will provide advice and assistance to management and associates of Equity Trust Company and its affiliates (herein referred to as Company) on a broad variety of business and legal matters.
The Legal Counsel will partner with the Senior Legal Counsel and General Counsel to ensure adequate protection of the Company against risk and financial loss, while assisting the business unit with increasing business opportunities.
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
Provide day-to-day legal services and strategic input to the Company on a variety of legal and risk-related issues Serve as primary legal counsel to Operations, assisting them with legal and risk-related questions.
Serve as primary counsel for the Company related to customer disputes, conducting fact and legal research and managing issues through resolution and response, as well as assisting with risk mitigation techniques to mitigate future complaints.
Serve as a primary lawyer on new data privacy and other relevant applicable regulations Assist with review of vendor contracts to ensure terms and conditions reflect the Company's business needs and comply with applicable legal requirements Review and revise various Company form documents on a regular basis (including client agreements and investment documents) to ensure compliance with the current state of the law and to mitigate risk Stay abreast of changes in the law that impact the Company Implement programs/initiatives to enhance enterprise risk awareness Actively participate in and potentially lead projects, serving as the legal representative Make recommendations for new policies, procedures, or process enhancements for the purpose of mitigating Company risk Serve as a resource to the Board and senior management regarding corporate governance, compliance, corporate planning, and corporate strategies Coordinate with risk committees and other Company initiatives as required Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Juris Doctorate Degree Minimum five (5) years of law firm or corporate legal department experience focused in the financial services industry (bank, broker-dealer, or trust company preferred) PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATIONS:
Ohio Bar License TECHNICAL SKILLS:
To be successful in this role, you should have experience with and an understanding of the following:
Knowledge of financial industry rules and regulations, including those applicable to trust companies, investment advisers and broker-dealers a plus Knowledge of alternative investments, private offerings and real estate transactions a plus Experience establishing credibility and trust with executives and senior management, as well as collaborating with all business lines Experience with at least two (2) of the following legal disciplines preferred:
employment, data privacy, banking, tax, ERISA, or IRA rules and regulations CULTURAL COMPETENCIES:

While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to speak and hear.

This job requires lifting files, opening filing cabinets, and bending or standing on a stool as necessary.
